About the Berlin 10 Open Access Conference
In 2003, a landmark meeting organised by the Max Planck Society and the European Cultural Heritage Online project brought together international experts with the aim of developing a new web-based research environment using the Open Access paradigm as a mechanism for having scientific knowledge and cultural heritage accessible worldwide. This conference wishes to attract vice-chancellors or principals from academic institutions, government officials, publishers, leading researchers, research funders, members from professional organisations and policy or decision makers at institutions.

Call to action
The Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities is regarded as one of the milestones in open access and was issued during October 2003. Through this declaration, international research, scientific, and cultural institutions, declared their intent to promote the Internet as a medium for disseminating global knowledge. We would like to encourage not only African institutions, but institutions worldwide to also sign this declaration. Read more ...
